Springing into Spring

Hi All,

Oscar here.

Does everyone know what just happened?

I know, I can barely contain my excitement either. The air is getting warmer, people are shedding their winter coats in favor of lovely lighter ones, dogs are getting spring hair cuts. It's a great time of year. And with the changing season, people are also motivated to take their exercise outdoors rather than running miles indoors on treadmills far from the cold winter chill.

In honor of this incredible time of year, I have an inspiring story to share about an incredible member of the animal kingdom. If you're a runner, or really an athlete in general, you know how easy it is to get burned out sometimes with the incessant workouts, the early mornings, the tireless dedication. So when Elizabeth Morgan, a long time runner, was feeling "over" her previous love of running, she researched running dogs, found that Black Labs are up to the task and immediately become a new puppy mom to Bella, a rescue dog.

Now, 2 marathons and 18 half marathons later, Bella has reinvigorated Elizabeth's love of running. So if you're in a slump, you might want to consider finding a furry friend to run with. Only watch out is, just like humans, dogs need to be eased into the process, so don't start them out too fast. Build up their mileage in the same way you would your own. And remember, they can't tell you when they are being pushed too hard so keep a close eye out for any changes in behavior and be sure to feed them extra calories after a run—they need to re-fuel just like we do.

Til' next time,
