Though for the most part, the nature of my musings revolve around cats, and dogs, and other domestic animals, as one of the representatives of the animal kingdom, I also feel it's my duty to share stories about animals in general and this week, I have a doozy to discuss.
You've all heard me go on and on about how horrible puppy mills are and how you need to adopt, not shop. Well, it recently came to my attention that dogs are not the only animals who are subjected to these horrors. In fact, I recently heard about a place called the Ironwood Pig Sanctuary that helps other abused animals. You can learn a bit more about their organization below, but in a nutshell, they rescue pot-bellied pigs who were being bred (puppy mill style) in horrible conditions. I won't go into the details but they were not living in circumstances anyone should be forced to endure. So the Ironwood Pig Sanctuary describes their role as providing:
"A permanent home in a safe, nurturing environment for abandoned, abused, neglected or unwanted pot bellied pigs from both the Phoenix and Tucson areas." Basically, they find cute piggies who need help. Then, they love and rescue them, giving them a new lease on life in the process. Animal abuse of any kind breaks my little kitty heart so while it's sad to share the stories, it's also important to spread the word about animal lovers, much like yourselves, dear readers, who continue to provide loving homes and give happiness to animals everywhere. Places like this thrive on the contributions of animal lovers so if you feel so inclined, help a pig in need by donating to their cause.
Til' next time,
