dont know about you, but I feel like the last month has been particularly rife with sadness in the news. The Stanford rape, the child snatching crocodile, the situation in Orlando, not to mention the sorry state of the presidential elections.
So while wallowing in sadness as I scoured the internet, I was thrilled to stumble upon two exemplary cases of animals who are straight-up incredible. Though it didnt eradicate the troubles our world is facing, it made me feel a bit better to know that kind and gentle animals like this exist. And since you know I love every opportunity to extol the virtues of the animal kingdom, here goes.
The first, is a sad occasion but a worthy opportunity to talk about an animal who truly stands out. You may have remembered the search and rescue dogs from 9/11 and their tremendous efforts in locating people post attack. Well, the last of the surviving dogs, a wonderful golden retriever named Bretagne, recently passed. Bretagne, you were a source of inspiration and love for all of us. We salute you.
The second are a group of 11 beautiful creatures (all of whom are also golden retrievers), who were flown to Orlando in the wake of last weeks tragedy, to offer love and comfort to the survivors. The power of love, given purely and simply with nothing asked in return but a pat on the head or a hug, is a potent medicine indeed.
So go home today and give your pets an extra cuddle. Theyre the good ones.
Til next time,
