Oscar here. There's a trend sweeping Brooklyn that I'd be remiss to not speak out against. I've been hearing about lots of Brooklynites making a choice to not vaccinate their pets!
If you've not heard of this insanity and are sitting there shaking your head, good! That's the reaction I'd hope something like this would elicit. Because not vaccinating is not only dangerous, it's foolish.
Living in Brooklyn, we can all probably admit to participating in some fads—man buns, glitter beards, mason jar salads. I get it. We all love to jump on a trend bandwagon now and again. But this anti-vaccination one is not good to participate in! It started because parents were hearing about correlations between children, vaccinations and autism.
But, since this evidence is far from conclusive the decision to not vaccinate your pet under the pretenses that if its dangerous for humans it must be dangerous for pets, is a foolish one.
Vaccines serve many purposes including keeping your pet safe and protected from infectious diseases. Not vaccinating them exposes them to dangerous conditions which can, in select cases, be passed on to humans.
So bottom line is, if you're looking for a great trend to participate in, find another one—this isn't it.
Til' next time,
