It's no secret that names have a ton of meaning behind them. Often, they even set the stage for the person whom they are affixed to's destiny. Now, imagine having a name like Strudel and being a massively overweight golden retriever. Ironic to say the least. But Strudel was one of those cases where she went above and beyond her name and set a new direction for herself.
Strudel's story is a tale that's far too common. She was living with an elderly woman who couldn't give her the exercise or proper nutrition she required and, when she was rescued by Hearts for Hounds, she weighed in at 81 lbs. Now, if that doesn't sound like a lot to you, take a look at the her picture. It's an unhealthy weight for a dog of her size..
Fortunately for Strudel, a generous couple, Kristy and John Cotthaus, owners of Zoom Room, a dog training business, heard about Strudel and decided to start her weight loss journey free of charge. Once in their capable hands, Strudel's weight fell right off and she's already lost 25 lbs. Though her inflamed joints (a result of her former obesity) keep her from being as nimble as she'd like, her weight loss has transformed the once stagnant dog into a loving and playful pooch.
And the best part? She's up for adoption through Hearts for Hounds so if you want to bring her home with you, reach out to them to learn more.
Obesity is a real issue amongst both cats and dogs alike. So even if your pooch looks cute with a few extra lbs, it's likely having a detrimental impact on their health. If you have a portly pet, talk to the PPAC about ways to help your pooch slim down and live a healthier life.
