Many of you have come to me asking about where to adopt animals. As you probably know, the PPAC is a great place to find cats and kittens for adoption but, as a general rule, we don't get tons of doggies for people to adopt (though Bernie Silverman was a rescue).
But don't worry—if you're in the market for a pooch, there are tons of great places to adopt. Now, before I dive in with a list, i've said it before and I'll say it again that the 'Adopt, don't shop' mantra is a good one to uphold. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying those little Frenchies and Bulldogs and Goldens, aren't adorable. But, there are so many mutts out there who need love just as much as everyone else.
On top of this, there are so many organizations that are rescuing dogs from dangerous situations. For instance, Dr. Silverman's daughter's boyfriend recently adopted an absolutely incredible pooch (coincidentally also named Bernie) from the Sato project, an organization dedicated to finding homes for dogs who were abandoned on Dead Dog Beach in Puerto Rico. You can see his sweet little face in the pic up there!
But there are tons more like it—small adoption organizations dedicated to finding amazing homes for the amazing homeless dogs out there. Here are just a few of our favorites:
Badass Brooklyn- Saving Badass Dogs From Idiot Humans (LOL)
PupStarz- An org dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of dogs in public shelters who are at high risk of euthanasia because of overpopulation and dogs in danger of abuse or neglect
In Our Hands- Committed to helping poor, abandoned and often neglected and abused animals no matter their origin
Muddy Paws- They like to envision a world where adopting animals is a positive and stress-free experience for all, removing all barriers and encouraging adoption as the default option for adding a pet to the family
Social Tees - They take abandoned animals from kill shelters and provides them with safe haven and veterinary care before placing them in proper forever homes.
As you can see, there plenty of incredible resources for all your pup adoption desires. Best part? Even if you're not 100% sure you're ready to adopt a pooch forever, you can sign up to foster a pet to see what it's all about. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and get a pet!
Til' next time,
